The second instalment from the ECHO EDITS subsidiary is the debut from heavyweight producer THE BEAT BROKER - who digs into his deep and dark archives to bring us THREE tracks for this release.
The A side “El Barrio Strut” kicks off with a funky beat and a rolling piano groove before the Latino tinged brass and a hammond section - evoking the gritty streets of Spanish Harlem for four minutes of dancefloor action.
On the flip “Bass By Dope Demand” does what it says on the tin - with a dirty bass loop beat into some filthy fuzz psyche action. Whilst “Stepper’s Delight” is a building break beat into punchy brass styles.
As soon as the fundraiser was announced I approached Ashley’s wife Jo Wallace about this idea for the next release - to get their blessing. When the details were confirmed, Ashley pointed out the sheer coincidence of the title - as he had produced a track as Black Science Orchestra, with the title “El Barrio”, 30 years ago!
