The Selection: Rhythm, Groove & Culture

When the concept for a Cuban Classics 45 Boxset emerged, DJ KOCO was the natural choice. Driven by a deep-seated passion for Cuba’s cultural melting pot, KOCO has curated a selection that highlights the country’s undeniable groove and rhythmic complexity.

Featured highlights include:

• Ricardo Eddy Martínez y Expreso Rítmico – ‘La 132’ (1978): A masterclass in Latin funk that kicks off the collection.

• Juan Pablo Torres y Algo Nuevo: The boxset features two spellbinding cuts from this legendary trombonist and innovator.

• Farah María – ‘Ámame Y No Pienses Mas’: A rare, slow disco production that leans toward American styles—a sonic anomaly given the US-Cuban political climate of the era.

• Orquesta Riverside – ‘En Casa Del Trompo No Bailes’: Sourced from a rare 7", this track begins with a low-slung bounce before exploding into a high-energy Afro-Cuban dancer.

The Exclusive Edits

In his signature style, DJ KOCO has contributed two exclusive edits designed specifically for the modern dancefloor:

1. Grupo Ismaelillo – ‘Amanecer’: A quirky track from a Cuban children's band, reworked into a more DJ-friendly structure.

2. FA-5 – ‘Muévete Con Las Fuerzas Del Corazón’: A 1976 funky dancer featuring a heavy b-boy/girl break, reimagined through KOCO’s expert lens.
