Hip Hop vs. The Sample on one 45.
Minnie Riperton, Baby This Love I Have. Released in 1975 on her Adventures in Paradise album,
this album cut never made it to a 45. A classic slice of sophisticated soul with Riperton’s unique
vocals floating over a lush, funky arrangement and instantly recognisable bassline - this deep-cut
still remains a diggers favourite.
A Tribe Called Quest, Check the Rhime. Released in 1991 as the lead single on the Low End
Theory album this hard to find 45 is a straight up Hip Hop classic. Built around the Minnie
Riperton sample, Q-Tip and Phife trade verses for maximum head nod and party vibes.
