Los Angeles collective Boogie Down Edits have carved out a unique niche: fresh, housed-up reworks of golden-era hip-hop classics. They've previously tackled the back catalogue of 'Daisy Age' dons De La Soul and here put their stamp on cuts by NYC contemporaries A Tribe Called Quest. They begin with 'Award Tour', where Q-Tip and company's iconic vocals and musical snippets from the original rise above a chunky, rolling house beat, before offering a deeper, dreamier and more bass-heavy house flavour on '4momz'. 'Clap Your Hands' is smartly re-imagined as a locked-in chunk of Rhodes-laden deep house niceness topped off with ATCQ's usual killer raps, while their 'OMG' sin is jazzy, warm and classy. Tasteful revisions of deep rap classics - ideal!
