Italian groove alchemist Gerardo Frisina has released plenty of classy jazz-funk tackle on Schema over the years, though this latest 7" feels particularly sumptuous, all humid atmosphere and velvet-lined rhythmic pressure. 'Duala' kicks things off in tremendous style, with thick rubbery basslines, snapping Afro-percussion and psychedelic synth vapours curling around the groove like nightclub incense at 3am. Delicious stuff. The flip-side 'Lindeza' eases the pulse slightly, trading nocturnal Afro-funk for tumbling Brazilian rhythms and honey-drizzled jazz keys that shimmer beautifully above the drums. Frisina has always known how to balance dancefloor propulsion with proper musical richness, and both cuts here feel steeped in that same rare-groove sophistication that makes his records catnip for adventurous selectors.
